How Monica An-24 Works Even on High BMI Patients


The MONICA AN24 is a small lead-less device that accurately monitors FHR, MHR, UC using 5 abdominal ECG electrodes. It provides an in-room wireless ambulatory monitoring solution, offering real advantages over conventional ULT/TOCO monitoring:

Seamlessly connects to your installed fetal monitor, PC or other Bluetooth enabled device

- Accurate ECG based monitoring


With High BMI patients traditional ultrasound/TOCO based monitors can be difficult to use. The Monica AN24 offers a solution that requires no belt/transducer adjustment without any loss in performance in high and very high BMI women. The Monica AN24 is available 

The small, wearable Monica AN24 is central to Monica's innovative labour and delivery monitoring, home care and research solutions. The AN24 can be used with two accessories:

  • The Monica IF24 Interface Device, which allows the Monica AN24 to be used as an alternative 'transducer' to your installed L&D monitor – requires a L&D monitor with an FSE option.
  • The Monica VS program running on a Bluetooth enabled PC, Notebook or Tablet combined with Monica AN24 provides a stand-alone solution for viewing and storing the FHR, MHR, UA, Maternal Activity and Events generated by the Monica AN24

Unique Technology

Uses ECG electrodes placed on the abdomen to monitor the fetal ECG, maternal ECG and uterine EMG; and a

 powerful internal processor extracts in real time the FHR, MHR and UA waveform validated against fetal scalp electrode, SpO2 and IUPC


  • Monitors the maternal and fetal ECG shape to confidently provide the fetal heart rate, even when fetal and maternal heart rates are similar
  • Uterine contractions are closer in accuracy to IUPC than TOCO
  • Improves uterine contraction detection without the risk associated with IUPC

Monica FHR and UA were shown to more accurately follow FSE and IUPC with less FHR/MHR confusion. In this example there are some FSE gaps and there is a Doppler FHR/MHR confusion (trace speed 3cm/min).

Able to monitor obese women

  • Detection of abdominal fetal ECG and uterine EMG1 signals are minimally affected by BMI
